WALNUT BOATS Ages : 5-10 yrs old Time : 20-30 minutes Skills practised : hand-eye coordination, creativity, design, drawing, planning. How to: - Crack open walnuts taking care to break them neatly in 2 halves. - Use blu-tack and a tooth pick to make the mast. Stick the blu-tack in the base of the boat. - Make small sails 3*4 cm, the children can decroate these themseleves. Help them assemble the sails if necessary. Once they are complete, you can race them in a stream or look at them float in a tub of water( the sales will not survive though !)

HAND TREE Ages : 3-10 Time : 20 minutes How to : use A 4 paper, lay your hand on the paper, draw its outline includcing a part of the wrist to resembe the tree trunk. Draw lines going from in between each finger and then draw arches along the length ofthe fingers down to the base of the tree. Add some leaves to the fingers and colour in. WALNUT LADYBIRD Ages :5-9 yrs old How to: - Crack open some wlanuts into halves (try not to break them) - As per picture below use acrylic paint and brushes - Best done in the kitchen or garden as it's a messy business with young ones ! Time : 10 minutes preparation + 10-20 minutes doing. Tools : acrylic paint, 5 or 6 paint brushes, plates, water Skills practised : fine motor skilsl, creativity, concentration, brush handling, planning.

PAPER FOX Ages : 5-10 Time :20 minutes How to : buy some A3 coloured thick paper, draw the fox, or any other animal. Cut it out, colour in and cut out pieces of paper for the eyes ( easy for kids to cut out). Stick it on the wall with blu tack, it will decorate a child's room and bring it to life. Skills practised : using scisors, glueing, drawing, colouring in, planning, design, concentration. Optional : if your child is below 6, ask him to draw his animal on a small piece of paper and transfer his design onto a larger paper and cut it out to help. this way he will recognise his design. |

PLASTECINE FIGURES Ages : 6-12 yrs old Time : 2 x 30 minutes How to : - Today you can purchase plastecine ( please see picture below) which doesn't require oven drying and dries within 24-36hrs - Set up a clean space ( kitchen is best ) - First session will be a standard plastecine session - Second session (when figures are dry ), use water based acrylic paints Skills practised: fine motor skills, creativity, planning, brush handling, sculpting.
